John is an early-stage venture capitalist, founder of True Ventures and passionate about growing businesses from concept to profitable enterprise. While he just crossed an important threshold in his professional life – he has now been a venture capitalist longer than he has been a CEO.
John started True in 2006 to get back to what he was passionate about – creating strong companies. He saw an ecosystem that had lost touch with the foundation of venture capital – the early-stage company. There seemed to be a lack of venture in early-stage venture capital. He treats the entrepreneurs that work with him as customers, and doesn't expect to make any money until the entrepreneurs and his investors do. John has a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and is also an alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley.
